CGSC Flying Scot Summer Series 2019 comes to a close

The final Saturday of the Flying Scot Summer Series was scheduled on August 24, 2019 but the weather did not cooperate.  The threat of thunderstorms, rain, and all around nasty weather prevented even one race from being held so the fleet decided to call it a day and hold the post-racing party early.  Skipper and Crew were treated to pizza, fruit, cookies, and drink tickets to celebrate the 6 different weekend events that made up this first annual CGSC Flying Scot Summer Series.  If you want to learn more about this kind of racing and these events, please visit the Flying Scot page on the website at cgscic.org/flying-scot-fleet/ where all the results, news, sailing instructions, and videos are posted.

Ryan and Lorie Messer won the first race back on June 22nd and never looked back maintaining their lead throughout the entire series.  Dave and Andi were in a good place to potentially win the series but with the bad weather and no racing on the final day they did not race in the required 4 events which took them out of contention.  Many of the boats traded skippers between the different dates such as Phillipe and Francois shared the helm on different dates and Bud shared the helm with Gary Shroat on more than one occasion.  The 3 ladies of Lucky Dog, Ashley, Jennifer, and Jessica all helmed different races throughout the series.  Many of the boats sailed with different crew members at different times including Obie, Alex, and Joerg.

The successful conclusion of the Summer Series was very encouraging for the fleet.  This was our first attempt to run our own races and see how successful we could be.  The exciting thing was that we successfully attracted 8 boats to this first series but even more exciting is that the upcoming Fall Series has 10 boats registered already!  Look for more information on the Fall Series as it approaches or check out the website for news and results here: cgscic.org/fallseries/

Congratulations to the top 3 finishers. There were six races in the series and competitors were required to compete in 4 of the 6 events to be eligible for trophies.  Here are the final results:
